Central Station Apartments

The Central Station Apartments is a 23-unit facility designed for independent living of physically disabled residents. A typical resident might be a victim of spinal cord injury and confined to a wheelchair. Support services for residents are available as appropriate for each individual's needs. Strategies for improved accessibility include:

- Wide hallways and doorways
- Oversized elevator
- Roll-in showers
- Ballbearing rollers on operating windows
- Adjustable height kitchen counters
- Wall oven with side-swinging door
- Lift track at ceiling for bed/wheelchair transfers
- Magnetic door holders on fire doors
- Swingfree closers on apartment doors
- Proximity reader entry control
- Prewiring for computer networks
- Oversized areas of rescue assistance on upper floors

The Central Station Apartments project is sponsored by:
- Quadriplegics United Against Dependency, Inc., Portland, Or (Quad, Inc.)
- Accessible Space, Inc., St. Paul, Mn (ASI)

The project is funded through the HUD 811 program
